Richard Hensley: “The Leaning of Scrum - A McKesson ADM business development story”
By now, many have heard about applying XP and Scrum in software development, right? But what have you heard specifically about lean principles and kanban concepts applied to software development? Are you interested in learning more about how others are applying these concepts in their software development processes? If so, please join us when Richard Hensley, from McKesson, as our featured guest shares his insights and experience in the presentation: “The Leaning of Scrum - A McKesson ADM business development story.”
ABSTRACT
We proposed to create a software as a service endeavor as an experiment in exploring new ways to build a McKesson software business. We theorized that the principles behind current software methodologies, specifically Scrum could be instilled into the whole business so that value could be delivered faster and with quality as compared to our corporate peers. We predicted the delivery of revenue producing customers less than one year from funding. We tested by executing our funded business plan. To our great relief, the theory is working. However, along the way we discovered waste and a cultural discontinuity in the Scrum framework that we were able to address by breaking the prescription of Scrum to reduce cycle time and increase productivity flow. The presentation will cover the steps and missteps along the way, and detail the results of our ongoing experiment, including our kanban implementation.
OPEN SPACE
In our Open Space session, the participants pick the topics they wish to discuss; there is no pre-determined agenda.
* Are you facing challenges with agile methods?
* Do you have agile success stories or advice you're willing to share?
* Do you have an idea for a new agile practice or tool you'd like to explore?
Your feedback indicates this has been of value to many and is a great way to break the ice by learning about and from each other. So, we’ll continue it at our monthly meetings. Whether you are an agile newbie or a veteran, you are welcome and encouraged to participate!
