Event Description

Presentation Abstract

“DevOps must apply to the whole organization, not only the part between development and operations.” Patrick Debois, Cutter IT Journal, August 2011

DevOps is a response to the optimizations that Agile development, web-based applications and Cloud computing have created. Organizations must now consider how DevOps strategies support the entire application change cycle. DevOps enables rapid, open collaboration between all application stakeholders including Dev, QA, Operations, application owners - even end users. The DevOps Cycle enables enterprises to become truly agile across all the functions supporting web-based applications.

Learning Outcomes

· How Agile relates to DevOps and the larger DevOps Cycle

· How Development and Operations can collaborate to become more agile

· Integrating Dev change management with IT change management

· How automation supports but does not drive DevOps strategies

Hi All,

I want to thank Jody Hunt from BMC Software for his presentation on “The DevOps Cycle: Accelerating Application Change Cycles.” Jody did a great job on this topic, starting from the bigger picture of software development and then drilling down to identifying key challenges in “closing the gap” that exists between development and operations in many organizations (I've added slides from last night's presentation and additional attachments above in the mtg notice, along with the additional links below. Check out slides #9 and #10 especially if you're new to dev/ops topic).

Links from last night's presentation:

Link: http://www.bmc.com/devops - bunch of content including videos related to helping you learn more about the dev/ops topic.

Book: Visible Ops - what Jody calls the Old Testament of DevOps (published in 2003). A short (100 pages) handbook for practical ITIL implementation:

Book: Continuous Delivery - the textbook for the nirvana DevOps state. Picks up where Continuous Integration leaves off.

Again, please share with Brad, Som, Walt, and me, topics that you'd be interested in seeing (and volunteering to present on :>). We really do want to hear from many more out there, from your latest real world on the floor experiences. If presenting is the issue holding you back, I’m confident we can do what I've seen done at other conferences, where we "team" you up with someone to "coach and advise" as you prepare your presentation. Team presentations work too. Agile Denver is really a great opportunity for you to improve and tune a presentation prior to submitting it for presenting at a larger conference.

Take care,

Frank
