The 21st Century Needs Radical Management: Agile to the Rescue!

Presentation Abstract

How will companies thrive in the 21st century? That is a question asked by Stephen Denning in his book The Leaders Guide to Radical Management. Employees are becoming less engaged in their work, consumers are becoming less loyal to brands, and executive/management turnover is increasing. Most disturbingly, many companies hold onto 20th century paradigms around management. Paradigms built to run assembly lines and railroad systems – things which can be done with a less skilled labor force. When those techniques are used on a skilled labor force of knowledge workers – like they software industry – the results continue to be less than expected.

 

Learning Outcomes

Bob's presentation will give information from Denning's book as well as insights into how managers (and their companies) need to act in the 21st century in order to not only survive, but thrive. Very large companies have failed and no company is really safe if they don't pay attention to the basics. This presentation shows how the basics align well with Agile practices. Bob will also discuss why and how managers need to change their thinking and way of managing if they want to have employees reach their full potential.

Agile seems to be used primarily in product development. This isn't surprising since that is where the roots of it started, but the mindset of agility can be used throughout organizations. Attend this session to explore how that can be done, and why it is vitally important for the 21st century.
