General Agenda:

  • 6:00 pm -6:20 pm Food and Networking
  • 6:20 pm -6:30 pm A word from our sponsors and announcements
  • 6:30pm -8:00 pm Presentation

Presentation abstract:
Many agile teams master TDD, but still struggle with automating tests above the unit level. They may want to embrace acceptance test-driven development (ATDD, also known as Specification by Example), but can't get it done.

Lisa Crispin will explain one simple secret to making test automation in agile projects work, sharing stories from her teams. Participants will be asked to share their own success stories and learning experiences. Everyone will leave with ideas for their own teams to try.

Learning outcomes:
1) Who's supposed to automate these tests?
2) How do you avoid spending all your time maintaining them once they're written, especially GUI-level tests?

About the speaker:
An agile testing coach and practitioner, Lisa Crispin is the co-author, with Janet Gregory, of Agile Testing: A Practical Guide for Testers and Agile Teams (Addison-Wesley, 2009), and a contributor to Beautiful Testing (O’Reilly, 2009) and Testen in der Finanzwelt (2009). She also co-wrote Testing Extreme Programming (Addison-Wesley, 2002) with Tip House. Lisa specializes in showing agile teams how testers can add value and guide development with business-facing tests. She teaches Agile Testing courses and tutorials worldwide. Lisa regularly contributes articles to publications such as Better Software magazine, Software Test & Performance Maazine, IEEE Software Magazine, Methods & Tools, Agile Journal, Agile Record. Hi All,

I want to thank Lisa Crispin for her efforts last night in presenting at our Agile Denver Oct mtg. (not to mention the great cupcakes she shared with everyone too).

If you missed this presentation, check out Brad Swanson's post here for a great summary of "key points" (aka "nuggets") http://properosolutions.com/blog/

Also, I ask all who did attend to share your feedback, we'll be sending out an online feedback link shortly. Help us make our presentations better with your insights.

Lastly, for all on this list, please too share with Brad, Som, Walt, and me, topics that you'd be interested in seeing (and presenting on :>). We really do want to hear from many more out there, from your latest real world on the floor experiences.

If presenting is the issue, we may be able to do what I've seen done at other conferences, where we "team" you up with someone to "coach and advise" as you prepare your presentation. Agile Denver is really a great opportunity for you to improve and tune a presentation prior to submitting it for presenting at a larger conference.

Lastly, really this time, we are beginning to prepare for our Mile High Agile 2012 conference to be held first week in April. If you are interested in helping or presenting, please contact Brad, Som, Walt, or me soon (today is not too early :>). We have a number of volunteers already who have agreed to lead a Conference Area of Responsibility (CARs we call them, and they are the CAR Drivers). But we need more help. This is a great opportunity for you to network with others in the broader Agile Denver community as well as to share your experiences.

Take care,
Frank
